John is a corporate specialist. His depth of knowledge and experience, acquired over more than 30 years, has led him to work across many practice areas and sectors. His practice covers acquisitions and disposals of companies and businesses, private equity, joint ventures, MBOs, and corporate reorganisations.  He acts for many charities, including several leading learned societies and professional institutions.  John advises these charity clients on constitutional and disciplinary matters as well as on their other charitable, corporate and commercial affairs.  He has much experience of advising bodies incorporated, or seeking to become incorporated, by Royal Charter.
 
John is also a specialist in professional and other trading partnerships.
 
John has advised clients across a broad range of sectors, including: electronics, mobile telecommunications, retail, leisure, engineering, the built environment, commodities, and trade associations. His advice to charities has covered Charity Commission compliance, schemes and orders; mergers; cross-border issues; the nature and variation of charitable objects; duties of charity trustees; trustees' remuneration; primary purpose and non-primary purpose trading; and relationships between charities and their non-charitable subsidiaries.
 
John is a member of the Law Society, the Association of Partnership Practitioners and the Charity Law Association.
